When I travel, I often grab a rock, any rock, from that place. Here is a map of the U. S. showing, in red, all of the states I have visited. I probably collected a rock from each and tossed it into the rock pile at home. Some geologist would go nuts looking through that pile.

Oh, no! I am not that obsessive. I just put them in the rock pile and fantasize that someday in the distant future a geologist will develop an entire theory about how those rocks from far flung places all arrived at the same location.

I don't think I am either, but I would enjoy them more if I knew what they were and where they were from.
